Summer Wine Spritzer

Summer is here!
There are so many things we love about summertime; long days, barbeques, sitting by the pool, and cold, refreshing drinks. That’s why, in the spirit of refreshment, we want to share a fun way to make your favorite wine into a fun and fizzy summer cocktail. It’s time to make a wine spritzer!
What is a wine spritzer?
A wine spritzer is basically a cocktail made with wine. Think along the lines of Sangria. If you already love to “wine down” at the end of the day, you will LOVE a good wine spritzer! Not only is it cool and thirst-quenching, but it’s EASY, and we love easy. There are so many variations of wine spritzer recipes that you can’t go wrong, but we will teach you one of our favorite fast and easy recipes. You just need ice, wine, sparkling water, and a little bit of fruit for garnish. That’s it!
Wine:
What kind of wine? That all depends on your taste! The great thing about wine spritzers is that you can get creative! If you’re feeling adventurous, try creating a spritzer sampler with a few different wines! Today, we are going to use one of our favorite reds, Corazon Gitano.
Sparkling Water:
Regular, unflavored sparkling water will do; however, you are the sultan of the spritzers! If you want to add some citrus, try a sparkling lemonade or Sprite. If you want to add some kick, pick up a ginger ale! In Spain, it’s even common to use Orange Fanta to make a Tinto de Verano (wine and citrus Fanta). Typically, the ratio is equal parts wine and sparkling water.
Ice:
It’s summer! It’s hot! Add a few ice cubes to chill the drink.
Garnish:
This is optional but you can add a bit of fruit like an orange or lemon slice!
Our Easy Wine Spritzer Recipe
- 1-part red wine, we used Corazon Gitano, but you could also try Viva La Roja for something sweeter or Merlot
- 1-part sparkling water (Sprite or similar if you want it sweeter)
- Ice
- Garnish (optional)
Fill a (preferably chilled) glass with ice. Fill the glass to the halfway point with red wine. Pour the sparkling water over the top. Give the drink a gentle stir. Garnish the top with an optional orange or lemon slice. Taste. Ahhhh! So refreshing!
We hope this idea helps you beat the heat while enjoying your favorite Heart of the Desert wines! We would love to see your summer spritzers! If you make one, please share a photo on our Facebook page!
