New Mexico’s Pistachio Industry Started Here
In 1974, George and Marianne Schweers purchased 400 two-year-old pistachio trees in Alamogordo, New Mexico. This exciting decision was more than just a new adventure for their family. It was the beginning of the pistachio industry in New Mexico.
Over 50 years later, Heart of the Desert is New Mexico’s largest producing pistachio grove, with more than 13,000 pistachio trees that produce up to 200,000 pounds of fresh kernels each year. With an unwavering commitment to quality, everything is still processed and packaged on-site.
