If you are a pistachio fanatic, you probably have a bunch of shells that end up in the trash. Ever wonder what you could do with them other than fill the landfill? How about trying your hand at some fun crafts?
We’ve scoured the internet for you to bring you some DIY crafty ideas to use those leftover pistachio shells. If you are a fan of upcycling or trash to treasure projects, you’re going to love these. We’ve saved several to our Heart of the Desert Pinterest page. Here are five of our favorites.
Pistachio Shell Flower Wreath
The first step in this beautiful, yet very time-consuming project is to eat lots of pistachios. Or know someone who eats lots of them and is willing to save the shells for you. This wreath requires the shells from 3lbs of pistachios! All you need to complete this project is a straw wreath, an abundance of pistachio shells, lots of hot glue and a gel staining glaze, if you choose to paint it. Pistachio Shell Candle Holder
These candle holders are a pretty little touch to a dinner or side table and can be painted to fit any color scheme. They look to be a fairly easy project without too many tools required. Click here for The Crafty Angel’s DIY Instructions.
Mini Pistachio Christmas Trees
The Christmas holidays are on the horizon, so these little trees are right on time. They take about 45 minutes to make, assuming you have already shelled and eaten your pistachios. All you need is hot glue, foam cones and pistachio shells. If you want to paint them, you’ll need that as well. Click here to see Blessed Beyond Crazy’s tutorial.
Pistachio Shell Flower Magnets
This is a cute and simple way to use up some pistachio shells. You’ll need shells, hot glue, cardboard, felt and some magnets. If you want to paint them, you’ll need the paint as well. Click here to see Homesteading Dreams DIY Instructions.
Hanging “Succulent Garden” Made with Pistachio Shells
This unique design plays off the living garden look. From a distance, they actually look like succulents. You’ll need a bunch of pistachios if you want to make a large design. This can hang on any wall or even on your front door in place of a wreath. Start by making a bunch of pistachio flowers, then glue brown moss to plywood and the flowers to the moss. Frame it and voila! Click here to see how Addicted 2 Decorating pulled this off.
