We are excited to announce our new art instructor for the Art of Wine classes, Xochitl Flores. Xochitl will become the instructor beginning with the April class. Xochitl, pronounced “Soh-Chee”, has been an asset to the Heart of the Desert team since 2013. She has always enjoyed painting and has taken several Art of Wine classes. She is currently working on a degree in Fine Arts and is looking forward to teaching and sharing her creative pieces with the Heart of the Desert, “Art of Wine” classes.
The Art of Wine classes are an art class where you are led step-by-step by an instructor to paint a specific image with acrylics on canvas. Classes include a glass of your favorite Heart of the Desert wine. All materials to create your masterpiece are included.

It’s time to prune the grapevines! Pruning is a critical component of the grape production system, because restricting the vine’s growth insures a higher quality grape. We use spur pruning which leaves a short cane with a maximum number of buds. Selecting the optimal number of growth points for each vine is important. The weight of the crop is supported by the wires on which the cordons are tied. High quality wines are produced from wine grapes that are in balance. Pruning starts the process.
